Hi I'm Kate, creator of Kihd

Ethics and Sustainability

It has always been an importance of mine to create ethically and sustainably.  From sourcing materials to shipping, it is a focus of mine to do so in the most ecofriendly and sustainable way. I have had a long term interest in slow fashion and I aim to source all materials, including textiles to embellishments, from deadstock, vintage or secondhand sources to help minimise the harmful effects of textile production. I come from a line of savers and users of everything so I believe in using materials that are already available and that would be subjected to landfill if unused, instead of creating a higher demand for new resources and materials. As well as using a majority of secondhand materials, each garment is handmade by me as I believe in slow and ethical garment production. When shipping my items I choose to use biodegradable packing materials and satchels as well as recycled materials when possible.

The same goes for my silver pieces. Each piece is created by hand using ethically sourced 100% Australian silver and I make an effort to source ethically mined gemstones aswell. Every scrap piece of silver is and will be recycled at some point during my creation process, no silver goes to waste as it can be remelted and forged again and again. this element is important to my practice. Like my garments, my jewellery is also shipped in eco friendly biodegradable packaging.

About Kihd

Welcome to the home and outlet for my creations, Kihd.

Kihd is inspired by my perpetual nostalgia, love of lace and active innerchild. Through Kihd I aim to create a sense of magic and a vintage or storybook like charm though pieces that are filled with intention.

Kihd is like the old biscuit tin filled with miscellaneous sewing equipment you find on the top of your grandmothers cupboard. Kihd is for the sentimentalists and collectors of inanimate knickknacks and those who find security in that. Kihd is the realisation of my childhood wonder.
